TIPS FOR PARENTS

Never criticise your child's drawing. They need to feel proud of their drawings. Never tell them 'they could do better' especially around 10-12 years when they are seeking approval and seeking to create real likeness of objects. Always encourage and assist by showing them photos of people, landscapes, architecture and objects. NEVER FORCE THEM TO DRAW but leave pages out of magazines of people for them. DON'T LOOK TOGETHER FOR IMAGES AND PHOTOS but guide them in the direction of magazines and images on the internet. Print them off and get a little folder going of various images. Show them good paintings and take them to drawing lessons and art galleries as often as you can.

WHEN YOU FEEL THEY ARE READY - print off USEFUL sheets that show them the proportions of the body or how to draw a face or to learn perspective.

Encourage them to develop stories of their drawings and ALWAYS place their drawings on the fridge, wall or cupboard. FRAME any that are really good.
